Description
The revealing chamber pop/folk album “In Case I Make It,” (ICIMI) which Will Wood playfully dubbed “Goodbye Cruel World: The Musical,” turned out to be a surprisingly strong follow-up. It followed his chaotic and sardonic previous release, “The Normal Album.”
While divisive among some fans due to its gentler sounds and more traditional vocal stylings compared to much of his recent work, ICIMI attracted new and older audiences. Additionally, it revealed a more personal side. It offered a new context for his discography.
Widely considered to be some of his most powerfully emotional works, both harshly introspective and humorous songwriting are still distinctly Will Wood in their experimental nature. Its unique delivery also shows his uncompromising unwillingness to conform. This applies to the expectations of both die-hard fans and audiences at large.
In 2021, the underground singer-songwriter was suddenly the subject of unexpected online attention. This, in tandem with mental health struggles, inspired him to put out a “musical suicide note.” It was intended to express parts of his artistic and personal identity. These had gone largely unseen by a fanbase he felt misunderstood by.
Leading the album with intentionally algorithm-unfriendly singles, Wood aggressively redefined himself. This included putting an eight-minute love ballad as the second track on the LP. He wanted to be more than just a handful of wacky, unwitting viral pops.
Ironically, it was essentially the surprise viral success of the deep cut “The Main Character,” that drew attention to the album. This track is a relentless satire of online culture. In turn, this success attracted listeners to its second-biggest hit, the angst-ridden yet danceable “Against the Kitchen Floor.”
However, it is the immense orchestration and vulnerable writing that have kept audiences coming back. Songs like “Euthanasia” and “Tomcat Disposables” have developed reputations as tearjerkers. Furthermore, songs like “Cicada Days” and “White Noise” have become fan anthems in the years since.

The cd shipped quick and it was in perfect condition! It plays well and I love the song obviously (I’m a huge will wood fan). I would recommend for someone to get it if they don’t have the money for a vinyl, or if they just want a nice will wood cd!
