Description

Untangled is the debut album from Handapple, a band whose music occupies the space where art, science, literature, and imagination intersect. Written between 2020 and 2021, the album draws inspiration from literary works, cinematic storytelling, scientific concepts, and the complexities of everyday life, weaving them into eight beautifully crafted songs filled with atmosphere, emotion, and curiosity. Echoes of ’80s synth-pop, art rock, and post-punk flow through the album, while ethereal vocals and moody, danceable grooves evoke comparisons to artists like Kate Bush and Depeche Mode without losing Handapple’s distinctive voice. Much of the album was recorded in the band members’ home studios before additional recording, including vocals, and the final mix were completed by acclaimed producer and engineer J. Robbins at Magpie Cage Studios in Baltimore, Maryland. The result is an ambitious and immersive debut that rewards repeated listening, introducing Handapple as one of the DMV’s most imaginative and compelling new voices.
