W-S Burn | Peek – a – Boo

Description

W-S Burn was a Knoxville, Tennessee experimental lo-fi “freak-folk” music duo consisting of Amanda Beddard (known as “Pixie”) and Steve Gigante. Peek-A-Boo was released as a limited edition project of 50 copies, showcasing the group’s fragile, intimate aesthetic. Cultured in alienation and raw headspace, W-S Burn’s sound on Peek-A-Boo evokes the quiet atmosphere of empty rooms and delicate home recordings, balanced with an underlying playfulness and sweetness. Their style draws comparisons to a withdrawn lo-fi dynamic reminiscent of artists like Julie Doiron or early Jandek, where a skeletal acoustic framework of harmonium, guitar, minimalist vocals, and unvarnished textures meet. Peek-A-Boo serves as a key document of their understated, deeply personal approach to underground songcraft, capturing a haunting yet tender snapshot. W-S Burn released multiple hard-to-find recordings through the mid-to-late 2000s, including their 2007 album Pleiades and a split 7″ single with Xiu Xiu before entering an extended period of inactivity, break-up and the untimely passing of Pixie. Last copies.
