Description
Renowned figures in American geometric abstraction, visual artists Mark Dagley and Don Voisine have maintained a long-standing creative dialogue at the intersection of non-objective painting, architectural space, and sound. While each is celebrated for a distinct minimalist vocabulary, Voisine’s razor-sharp, hard-edge spatial planes and Dagley’s vibrant structural patterns, their shared history also encompasses a involvement in New York City’s experimental music and performance communities. This interdisciplinary crossover culminated in their audio collaboration for TIME’S UP… Scenes 1–12, a 3-hour dance installation choreographically conceived and performed by acclaimed dancer and performance artist Ellen Fisher at Roulette in NYC on November 10, 2007. Fisher, a central force in downtown dance since the 1970s renowned for her long-standing work with Meredith Monk and her deep immersion in Sri Lankan ritual dance, structured the marathon work into twelve distinct fifteen-minute scenes, inviting audiences to move freely through the space. For scene three of the installation, Dagley and Voisine composed a custom 15-minute percussion and electronic sound environment titled Doomed Stupa Dance. Excerpts of this work were previously released on Dagley’s 2017 “Collected Works 1978-2016” on Feeding Tube Records, but this limited edition cassette presents Doomed Stupa Dance in its entirety.
