Truculent is an innovative musical project led by Dan Timlin, where a guitar represents an entire worldview. By bending time, tone, and tuning, Timlin crafts a unique blend of protest, meditation, and memoir, infusing political and emotional intensity into each sound. The name Truculent, meaning to speak harshly, cleverly contrasts with the music’s wordless communication. The subsequent work, ‘A Worker’s Guide to Transfiguration,’ showcased a mix of composed pieces and raw ideas, presenting a documentary-style soundscape. Through projects like Listen, Little Man and Caviling The Facts!, Truculent continued its trajectory of political commentary and intricate sound layering. Environmental sounds and found noises contribute to Truculent’s haunting essence, with sparse yet impactful vocals. Under the guidance of primary engineer Dan Angel, the mix becomes a performance in itself. The upcoming album, Born For The Gallows Or The Wheel, promises to be the most expansive work yet, reminiscent of King Crimson, offering a conceptual experience that evolves with each listening. Each Truculent release, produced under Timlin’s charity label Strange Mono Records, supports a specific cause, with proceeds benefiting various organizations.
