Marianne Nowottny | Honey in a Goldmine

Description

In 2013, Marianne Nowottny’s handmade CD-R release Honey in a Goldmine was issued in a limited edition of just 50 copies on Susan Matthews’ Siren Wire Editions and co-released with Abaton Book Company. It hit the #1 spot on Howard Thompson’s North Fork Sound radio program on WPKN. The item quickly sold out at the source. Conceptually, Honey in a Goldmine captures Nowottny performing under a Tex-Mex-infused alter ego, Marzanna. The project balances melodic charm with raw, underground grit, pairing her idiosyncratic vocal delivery with low-budget keyboards and percussion. International reviews followed the release and a featured mention on the KFJC site by Cynthia Lombard. In support of the project, Nowottny traveled to the West Coast for a series of live performances, including a standout appearance at Magma Fest 2013 in Seattle sponsored by Hollow Earth Radio.
