Description
ย “Everything Is a Lot”
“Everything Is a Lot” by Will Wood & The Tapeworms began its long production journey in 2014. At that time, the singer-songwriter was just 20 years old and performing drunken alt-comedy at open mics. However, with no funding, Wood assembled a makeshift band to bring his teenage songs to life in the studio. Consequently, the unstructured production process and youthful experimentation resulted in a uniquely loose and chaotic feel.
### The Creative Journey
Itโs noteworthy that the album started as an exuberant creative endeavor. Moreover, the sound of this debut LP is defined by Woodโs Jay Hawkins-esque vocal delivery and an out-of-tune old upright piano. In addition to this, it includes wailing wind instruments, jangly guitar, high-powered yet loose drums, and sardonic, overdriven kazoo solos.
### Eclectic Musical Fusion
The album combines elements of swing jazz, twee indie pop, pseudo-mariachi, and waltz. Thus, this diverse musical fusion resonates with listeners and aligns perfectly with the existential title, “Everything Is a Lot.”
### Will Wood’s Early Career
In his early career, Will Woodโs style was characterized by experimental vocal delivery and honky-tonk piano smashing. Although his darkly edgy songwriting added to the mix, his craft has matured into a more precise approach. Nevertheless, his refusal to conform to expectations remains a hallmark of his songwriting. Furthermore, his constant shifts in genre also define his production.
### Signature Style Development
In his releases with “Will Wood & The Tapeworms” (including “Everything Is a Lot” in 2015 and “SELF-iSH” in 2016), audiences can glimpse the early development of what would eventually become his signature style. Importantly, it is presented in a uniquely raw and chaotic state of potential.
