Description
Philadelphia-based metal band Spesimin conjures a dark, intense realm through heavy riffs and disturbing imagery, addressing the ills of modern life with cathartic energy. Formed in 2019 by Ian (vocals/drums), a punk-rooted musician, and Alejandro (guitar), who brings a jazz influence, the band gained depth in 2020 with bassist Jeffโs love for Florida Death Metal and New York Hardcore. Together, they forge a unique, melodic brand of โMetalpunk,โ merging Punk, Hardcore Thrash, and Death Metal with rock grooves and melodies, moving toward doomier, technically elaborate compositions.
Spesiminโs music confronts themes of addiction, religious fanaticism, capitalismโs violence, and genocide, blending personal and political topics with a visceral, horror-infused aesthetic. Influenced by classic horror literature, the bandโs lyrics evoke existential dread and dark cravings, adding a sense of grotesque fun to their performances. Their discography, including Born In The Crypt (2020) and Rotting In The Vine (2022), traces their evolution toward a forthcoming self-titled LP in 2025. This album, featuring their newest EP, Skull Worship, marks their vinyl debut and captures a pivotal phase for Spesimin. The project is shaped by Dan Angelโs engineering and artwork, complemented by Arthur Rizkโs mastering, and anchored by โSpesi,โ a mascot embodying their music’s primal energyโa faceless, brainlike fiend, representing an unyielding revenge against an indifferent world. |
