**Discover Big Burly: The Unique Noise-Rock Band from Philadelphia**
Big Burly is an exciting new side project that brings together talented members from Spesimin, Sheer Mag, The Company Corvette, and Programmed Hatred. Their debut release, featuring a track called “Tumors” that runs an impressive 7 minutes, has been generating buzz.
This Big Burly 7 inch release captures audiences with its raw energy. Originating from Philadelphia, this band produces a distinctive sound. It sets them apart in the noise rock genre. With bassists Jess Kramer and Ross Pritchet taking center stage, Big Burly’s music is a fresh take on traditional hardcore.
The band’s lineup is uniquely guitarless, which allows Ian Dykstra’s powerful drumming to create a strong backbone, while Dan T’s intense vocals inject a relentless energy throughout their tracks. Their music features blisteringly short songs and non-repetitive structures that effortlessly combine wry humor with innovative sounds.
Critics have noted that Big Burly avoids the grind and excessive speed often found in hardcore, instead opting for a mix of slow and mid-paced parts reminiscent of influential bands like No Comply and Godstomper. Their style embodies the DIY spirit, featuring a raw, distorted sound that captures listeners’ attention.
With two bassists and no guitarist, Big Burly’s music has a trebly and edgy quality. This sets it apart from the crowd. Their compositions are just as likely to feature alongside iconic bands like Charles Bronson and Suppression on a compilation LP. They are also expected to be included in hardcore playlists. If you’re searching for polished hardcore, Big Burly offers something fresh and exciting. It goes beyond mainstream sounds.

Big Burly is the long-awaited side project from members of Spesimin, Sheer Mag, The Company Corvette, and Programmed Hatred. Hailing from Philadelphia, Big Burly’s signature sound puts bassists Jess Kramer and Ross Pritchet front and center.
The guitarless band is balanced perfectly by Ian Dykstra’s pounding drum style.
Meanwhile, Dan T’s deranged vocals serve up relentless energy.
Wry humor, blisteringly short songs, and non-repetitive structures all combine to make something unique. It’s fun to listen to.
“Big Burly avoids grinding (or really any sort of speed at all). Instead, they deliver the slow and mid-paced parts that No Comply and Godstomper would’ve written between fast-core blast beats. I suppose you’d file it under “noise-rock” in that case. However, something is happening here that feels equally likely to be on a compilation LP alongside Charles Bronson and Suppression as a volume of Dope-Guns-‘N-Fucking In The Streets. Weirdly, Big Burly has two bassists and no guitarist. Yet, the sound is just as trebly and itchy as the Godstomper above and No Comply. Maybe they only used amps that can be carried with one hand. Alternatively, they may have recorded it to sound that way. It’s a DIY-sounding affair, right down to the distorted squeal of vocalist Dan T. If you want polished hardcore, you can go to the mall!” – Matt Korvette
