{"id":4085,"date":"2015-11-07T11:15:20","date_gmt":"2015-11-07T15:15:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hcdistro.com\/store\/?p=4085"},"modified":"2015-11-07T11:15:20","modified_gmt":"2015-11-07T15:15:20","slug":"rock-royalty-join-forces-for-a-benefit-concert-for-tony-macalpine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hcdistro.com\/store\/rock-royalty-join-forces-for-a-benefit-concert-for-tony-macalpine\/","title":{"rendered":"Rock Royalty Join Forces for a Benefit Concert for Tony Macalpine"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">\n<div id=\"mainContent\">\n<p>Los Angeles, CA) Guitar legends <strong>Steve Vai<\/strong>, <strong>Zakk Wylde<\/strong> and <strong>John 5<\/strong>, along with drum powerhouse <strong>Mike Portnoy<\/strong>, bass icon <strong>Billy Sheehan<\/strong> and keyboard phenomenon <strong>Derek Sherinian<\/strong> are joining forces to play a benefit concert for guitar and keyboard virtuoso <strong>Tony MacAlpine<\/strong>, who was recently diagnosed with colon cancer.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Benefit for Tony MacAlpine<\/strong> will take place at the <strong>Wiltern Theatre<\/strong> in Los Angeles on December 12, 2015, at 7:00pm, featuring performances from <strong>John 5 &amp; The Creatures<\/strong>, <strong>Zakk Wylde<\/strong> with <strong>Mike Portnoy<\/strong>, <strong>Billy Sheehan<\/strong>and <strong>Derek Sherinian<\/strong>; <strong>Steve Vai<\/strong> and band, and culminating in an all-star jam with house band Portnoy, Sheehan, Sherinian featuring special guests. <strong>Eddie Trunk<\/strong> will serve as master of ceremonies for the night.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to this extraordinary musical event, <strong>Steve Vai<\/strong>, <strong>John 5<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Joe Bonamassa<\/strong>, <strong>Steve Stevens<\/strong>, <strong>Paul Gilbert<\/strong>, <strong>Steve Lukather<\/strong> and <strong>Joe Satriani<\/strong> have all graciously donated personal guitars to be auctioned during the event. <strong>Simon Philips <\/strong>has dontated a signature snare.\u00a0 Tony\u2019s gear manufacturers <strong>Ibanez<\/strong>, <strong>Hughes &amp; Kettner<\/strong>,<strong>EMG Pickups<\/strong>, <strong>Ernie Ball<\/strong>, <strong>Source Audio<\/strong> and <strong>Voodoo Lab<\/strong> have also generously donated equipment to be raffled.<\/p>\n<p>Tony\u2019s cancer diagnosis comes on the heels of his wife\u2019s diagnosis with breast cancer in June, making the situation even more trying for Tony and his family.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTony is a dear friend, an absolutely sweet human being and one of the most talented musicians I\u2019ve ever worked with,\u201d says <strong>Mike Portnoy<\/strong>, \u201cWe are coming together to help raise money and awareness to help him fight his battle and come out on top!\u201d Adds <strong>Steve Vai<\/strong>, \u201cIt\u2019s a great privilege to take to the stage with my friends Zakk, John, Mike and Billy in support of our dear friend Tony. Tony has always been blessed with an exceptional talent and more so, he\u2019s an exceptionally cool guy. We look forward to making a historical night, and raising a lot of money to help our friend in need.\u201d said <strong>Derek Sherinian<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tony MacAlpine<\/strong> is widely known as a guitar virtuoso who is just as skilled on the keys. <strong><em>Edge of Insanity<\/em><\/strong>, his classic debut album, was recently ranked by <em>Guitar World<\/em> magazine as one of the Top Ten Shred Guitar Albums of all time. Aside from his solo work, Tony has also been part of several rock supergroups including <strong>Planet X<\/strong> with<strong>Derek Sherinian<\/strong> and <strong>Virgil Donati<\/strong>; <strong>PSMS<\/strong> (Portnoy\/Sheehan\/MacAlpine\/Sherinian); as well as the Grammy nominated <strong>CAB<\/strong> with bassist <strong>Bunny Brunel<\/strong> and drummer <strong>Dennis Chambers<\/strong>. MacAlpine also spent seven years playing guitar and keys in <strong>Steve Vai<\/strong>\u2018s touring band <strong>The Breed<\/strong>.\u00a0 Tony\u2019s most recent album <strong><em>Concrete Gardens<\/em><\/strong>was released in May. Tony toured the US in June to promote the album, but was forced to cancel tours of Asia, Australia and Europe when his health deteriorated.<\/p>\n<p>Tickets are on sale Saturday November 7, at 10am PT through <a href=\"http:\/\/concerts.livenation.com\/event\/09004F64D7A62B14\" target=\"_blank\">LiveNation.com<\/a>, with all proceeds going to help Tony and his family.
