Busking to Beauty: Ane Brun Interviewed on\u00a0Echoes<\/h2>\n

\"Brun-Songs\"<\/a>Norwegian-born, Sweden-based\u00a0 singer-songwriter\u00a0Ane Brun<\/b>\u00a0creates a dreamy, folk-based music. She looks back on her 10 year career and new double CD retrospective\u00a0Songs 2003-2013<\/i><\/a>.\u00a0 But she started out as a busker.\u00a0 There are thousands of them around the world:\u00a0 Musicians playing on street corners, in cafes and any other place an audience might stroll by and listen.\u00a0 Some of them are young musicians getting their music together, some just make their living as a busker, scrounging quarters and quid into something resembling a living.\u00a0 Few of them actually break through to become recording musicians.\u00a0 I can think of some,\u00a0Kaki King<\/strong>,\u00a0Portico Quartet<\/strong>,\u00a0The Angels of Venice<\/strong>.\u00a0 Add to that small list Ane Brun.\u00a0 I talk to her about her 10 year career tonight on Echoes.<\/p>\n

Ane Brun on her jazz Influences:<\/strong>\u00a0 I think my voice is influenced a lot by jazz singers, actually.\u00a0 I grew up with listening to vocal jazz a lot,\u00a0Ella Fitzgerald<\/strong>,\u00a0Billie Holiday<\/strong>\u00a0and the big legends.\u00a0 So I was singing along to like\u00a0Aretha Franklin<\/strong>\u00a0and Ella Fitzgerald and that kind of stuff.<\/p>\n

Ane Brun on the melancholy of Scandanavian music:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s true, it\u2019s what we have.\u00a0 I, I think it\u2019s the long winters, it might be, and also the Lutherism and all that stuff.<\/p>\n
